It appears that the home video release date for the 2009 summer blockbuster Star Trek has trickled onto the internet. Paramount will be beaming their rejuvenated franchise into retail stores this November. So, mark your calendars. The new future will be yours to own, and give away as gifts, just in time for the Christmas holiday season.
UPDATE: Full press release now included
The film will be release in the following editions:
– Single Disc DVD
– 2 Disc Special Edition DVD
– 3 Disc Special Edition Blu-ray
The Blu-ray release plans to go where no home entertainment release has gone before with a bonus feature that’s on the packaging. An interactive tour of the Enterprise.
Variety describes it as this:
With the packaging feature dubbed “augmented reality,” consumers will be able to hold their disc packaging in front of any standard webcam to unlock an interactive hologram on the computer screen, through which they can tour five cabins on the Enterprise, even shooting enemies from the ship’s deck.
Users will have to log in to a website to access the feature, but they control the hologram by holding the disc packaging.
“If you took the visual cue in the package and turned your hand, then you’re turning the ship,” Paramount homevideo senior VP of brand marketing Bob Buchi said.
While full details have yet to be released some of the other extrasinclude deleted scenes, an abandond storeline involving Nero, and Abram’s version of a Klingons. Paramount is also stepping up BD-Live fun with a feature that connects you to live updates from space through NASA. There’s also the ability to further explore ships from the film with the Star Fleet Vessell Simulator.
Stay tuned for details as they warp in.
