HD-DVD and Mini-DVD Arrives!!

Well, we’re back for a whole new year and to start things off right, how about a little news that should perk up the home theater crowd?During the 2005 CES, or Consumer Electronics Show to you and me, the folks from the HD-DVD project group dropped some major info about timelines, and even a long list of movie titles that will appear on the format at launch. Also, how about something a little bit smaller?Check it out… ign.com is reporting that no less then 89 titles will debut on the High Definition format that is set to take on rival format Blu-Ray for dominance in the Hi-Def home entertainment arena.Equipment manufactures claim that hardware to playback the media should begin arriving in stores around the fouth quarter of this year. Blu-Ray has slightly pushed back its launch to the beginning of 2006.Ok, now for the goods – what titles will there be?Well how about all of these for starters?   • We Were SoldiersAs if that weren’t enough, Warner Brothers is also launching mini-DVD. Although the format itself has been around for years and is used mainly for computer data backup or in Nintendo’s Gamecube, now it seems the WB is interested in selling the format to families. Accompanied by a playback device about the size of a gameboy that will sell for about $120, the products will launch in the spring and carry such titles as Bring It On, The Fast and The Furious and The Flintstones.
